Miguel Angel Torres Day Set For June 4

WEC’s Urijah Faber was recently honored in his hometown of Sacramento, California with a day of his own, and now fellow star Miguel Angel Torres will receive the same treatment in his hometown of East Chicago, Indiana. The city will celebrate “Miguel Angel Torres Day” on June 4.

The former bantamweight champion grew up and still lives in East Chicago, and he runs his mixed martial arts academy in nearby Hammond. Torres is expected to take part in several activities around the city on the day of the event.

“East Chicago is my home, and to be recognized in this capacity means a lot,” Torres stated in an official release from the WEC announcing the honor. “The city is full of hardworking people and I have done my best to represent East Chicago in a positive way.”

The honors will be a bright spot in what has become a rough patch for the 29-year-old Torres. He started his career with a 37-1 record, including 5-0 in the WEC before losing his last two fights to Brian Bowles and Joseph Benavidez. Torres has not fought since his lost to Benavidez in March, but he currently has no scheduled fights on the horizon.
