Alistair Overeem Passes His Drug Test

News

Results of drug tests from six of ten fighters tested this past weekend at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery were released today. Of the six fighters, results for Alistair Overeem were the most anticipated. Controversy had circled Overeem prior to the fights as some speculated he wouldn’t even be tested due to the random testing done by the Missouri Office of Athletics. Many were convinced Overeem would fail any test given due to his growth in size recently. Friday’s results now leave no doubt of his innocence.

Along with Overeem, Antonio Silva, Joey Villasenor, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante, and Antwain Britt all passed their drug tests. Test results for Brett Rogers, Andrei Arlovski, Roger Gracie, and Kevin Randleman are still yet to be released.

Fighters were tested for anabolic steroids with a urinalysis test administered by an independent local laboratory contracted by Strikeforce after the pre-fight weigh-ins. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker shared his thoughts on the testing.

“When the commission here said they’d only be random testing, I didn’t want there to be an ounce of doubt and have all these critics say, ‘Ah, Alistair didn’t get tested, Feijao didn’t get tested,'” Coker told Sherdog.com.

Will critics finally relent in their feelings about Overeem and any potential drug use on his part? Only time will tell, but at least for now, he has tested clean and proven his detractors wrong.
