Rafael Marquez Evens The Score With Israel Vazquez

Rafael Marquez defeated Israel Vazquez by TKO in the 3rd round last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Vazquez was cut over his left eye in the first round and he was bleeding heavily by the end of the second round. Vazquez was cut over his right eye in the third round and was having trouble seeing. Vazquez took a knee during a barrage from Marquez giving Marquez a knockdown. Marquez continued to pressure Vazquez who backed against the ropes with his gloves up. The referee stopped the fight seconds later.

The win for Marquez evens the series with Vazquez at 2-2. There will likely not be a fifth fight between the two. Israel Vazquez and his team will be looking very closely at retirement. Rafael Marquez will continue to fight and mentioned Vic Darchinyan as a possibility for his future.

On the undercard, Yonnhy Perez and Abner Mares fought to a majority draw. Scores were 114-114, 114-114, and 115-113 for Mares. Yonnhy Perez retained his bantamweight title with the draw.
