Update On Rey Mysterio’s WWE Contract & Future; CM Punk’s New Direction

News, Top Story

Rey Mysterio and WWE appear to have resolved their recent differences. Mysterio is happy with his current position in the company. He still has major knee problems to deal with in the future but has no plans to take time off for surgery at present. His contract still has about five years left to run. It also states that he could retire as an in-ring competitor before it expires should his physical condition worsen, yet WWE would still retain the rights to his on-screen character for that length of time.

One of the factors behind Mysterio’s new arrangement with WWE was that he would get a month or so of vacation time. This changed the booking of his match with CM Punk at Over The Limit. Knowing that Mysterio would be absent for a while left the writers convinced that he had to go over Punk on that show, since they did not want to be locked into an angle involving Mysterio being in the Straight Edge Society despite not being in action. Punk is now expected to feud with Kane in Mysterio’s absence.
