Perfect Victims – DVD Review

Film, Reviews

Something interesting happens when you watch a film that is really bad. With no chance of getting lost in the characters or story you end up with a lot of time on your hands to think. And what else do you think about than the really bad film you’re watching. That’s what Perfect Victims did for me.

Jack and Freddy have been best friends since they were little kids. The fact that Jack was poor and Freddy was rich never bothered them. They are also both in love with Anne. Now all three are in college, having sex, drinking and taking lots of home made drugs from their friend Mark. Jack and Freddy are trying to get into a super exclusive fraternity and Freddy plans on marrying Anne. Too bad Jack is already sleeping with her.

Okay, so the above paragraph is a nice description of a majority of the drama in the film. However, that isn’t even remotely what this film is about. And I can’t really tell you any more as to ruin the many twists this film has. Twists that would make M. Night Shyamalan groan and roll his eyes. And that’s saying something. The director also attempts to tell his story in a very non-linear fashion, but it, like every other aspect of this film, just doesn’t work.

The acting is terrible, the dialog is ridiculous and much of the cinematography gave me a headache. Though, there were a few scenes at the end that were so ludicrously bad that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud and that almost made the film worth sitting through.

This film was shot back in 2004 and finally got released on DVD now in 2010. I feel bad for anyone who was anxiously awaiting the release of this film.

The film is presented in 1.78:1 widescreen. Sound is in 5.1 surround sound. This film looks like it was shot on a camcorder. The look is terrible and does not help the film at all. The sound is very muddy and the ADR is really bad in a lot of places.

None. For once I was grateful for no extras, but that is still not going to help the over all score of this DVD.

Wow, this was just a terrible film, certainly not anything worth buying. If you like bad movies then it might be worth a rental, but don’t look for it on netflix cause they don’t even have it.
