Tampa Bay Lightning Hire Steve Yzerman as GM

News

The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that Hall of Fame forward Steve Yzerman will be the teams next GM.

He’s replacing Brian Lawton, who was fired April 12 along with head coach Rick Tocchet.

Yzerman retired in 2006 after playing his whole career with the Detroit Red Wings. He was working as their Vice President since retiring. He also was the Executive Director of the Canadian Hockey program that won a gold medal in the Olympics.

I’m almost shocked that the Red Wings didn’t promote Yzerman to a comparable position to keep him with the franchise.
