What will Cap look like in Captain America: The First Avenger?

News, Top Story

A little bit of surfing led me to a little article, and apparently some people have seen the front runner for Captain America’s costume in the upcoming movie! Now Cap has a costume more akin to what the X-Men would wear, as opposed to, say, Iron Man. Or Batman. It’s something that looks awesome on paper, and in cartoons, but if I saw someone actually dressed like Captain America in real life? I’d probably chuckle before realizing he could beat the shit out of me…..and then I’d see the head wings and start laughing again. Ultimate Cap has a much better look as far as lending itself to the silver screen, but then again, that design was based much deeper into reality (as were most of the early Ultimate looks), and most likely with full intent on Marvel’s part to have it be part of future movie marketing. Ultimate Nick Fury is Samuel L. Jackson, after all.

And in fact, there are going to be two designs. At first I figured that meant we’d get World War II Steve and modern Steve, but on closer read it seems more like in the movieverse, Steve starts with an army created costume that more resembles his traditional look, but opts for a more military look for practicality. Anyway, here’s the sum up!

— The wings on the cowl are gone.

— The cowl itself is gone too, replaced by a traditional Army helmet (ala The Ultimates).

— The “A” on the forehead remains.

— As with the entire suit, the blue is much more muted than in the comics.

— The white star on the chest remains but is not as prominent as in the comics.

— Instead of red and white stripes on the abdomen, this costume just has a white base with two red utility belts acting as stripes. “These belts affix to a metal loop at the midpoint of the chest and a black strap extends up to the shoulders from that point,” says the site.

— The fabric appears to be a sort of leather, ala the X-Men films.

— There’s an old-school utility belt with a buckle and pockets (like this).

— The shield is very close to the classic design.

Hopefully we’ll get a look at the real deal, and Chris Evans in it, sooner than later. I know I can’t wait!
