The NCAA is inducting 14 new members to it’s Hall of Fame, including Desmond Howard, Barry Alvarez, and Pat Tillman.

The other nominees are Dennis Byrd of NC State, Ronnie Caveness of Arkansas, Ray Childress of Texas A&M, Randy Cross of UCLA, Sam Cunningham of USC, Mark Herrmann of Purdue, Clarkston Hines of Duke, Chet Moeller of Navy, Jerry Stovall of LSU, Alfred Williams of Colorado, and Gene Stallings of Alabama.

Howard won the Heisman Trophy in 1991 and is fondly remembered by fans of the University of Michigan. He scored 23 touchdowns that season, including a game winning one against Notre Dame. He ended up being drafted 4th overall by the Redskins and was considered a huge bust in the NFL, even though he was the Super Bowl MVP in 1997. He’s now an analyst for ESPN.

Alvarez rebuilt the University of Wisconsin program, being the first coach in Big 10 history to win consecutive Rose Bowls.

Tillman was a linebacker from Arizona State University that gave up a lucrative contract from the Arizona Cardinals to join the Army Rangers; he was killed in combat in 2004.
