Nickolas Lidstrom has agreed to a 1-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings. The 40-year old defenseman was contemplating retirement, but instead decided to play his 19th season for Detroit.

Lidstrom has won the Norris Trophy 6 times in his career, second behind Bobby Orr and Doug Harvey; last year was the second time in the last decade that he wasn’t a finalist for the award.

He is on record stating he will not challenge former teammate Chris Chelios’s record for age in the leauge; Chelios played last season at age 48.
