The Tigers pitching staff as a group has been downright awful this year, and Willis has been one of the worst.
The Tigers send Willis and money to the D-Backs for right-handed-pitcher Billy Buckner. Willis was 1-2 with a 4.99 ERA this season and 2-8 with a 6.86 ERA overall for Detroit. Buckner was 0-3 with an 11.08 ERA in three starts for the Diamondbacks.
Willis was part of the trade that sent Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers for pitcher Andrew Miller and CF Cameron Maybin.
Willis was making $12 million per year, and the Tigers will pay most of that salary.
