Soccer News: Chelsea Star Didier Drogba Out Of World Cup With Broken Arm

News

The Ivory Coast star told teammate Kolo Toure that he is out of the World Cup.

Drogba broke his arm in a warm-up match against Japan on Friday. Drogba went up with Japan defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka on a high challenge and came down awkwardly. Trainers aren’t sure if the injury occured on the challenge or the fall.

Team spokesman Eric Kacou told The Associated Press that “it is a fracture in his right arm.”

Drogba scored 29 goals in 32 matches this year to lead Chelsea to the EPL Championship and was going to be a vital player in the Ivory Coast’s attempt to survive the group of death in this year’s World Cup. The Ivory Coast is in the group with Brazil, Portugal, and North Korea.
