Poor Donald Glover. Brother can’t even audition to play Peter Parker. Reminds me of that Boston Legal episode where the lawsuit involved whether or not Alice of “Alice in Wonderland” could be played by a black girl. Well, as it turns out, the spot may have already been filled. A rumor surfaced from Bleeding Cool (via The Playlist) that Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, King Kong), who was on the shortlist to be considered for the role of Spidey, has already been picked as the new webslinger in Marc Webb’s retooling of the Marvel superhero.
Now nothing is concrete, but if this is true, I like the decision. Jamie Bell is extremely talented – he was the best part of Jumper after all – and he’s got experience with big productions having worked with Peter Jackson on King Kong and the forthcoming The Adventures of Tintin franchise with Steven Spielberg and Jackson again. The question remains on how much Tintin will affect his schedule. If it creates problems, where he can’t do Spider-Man, Sony better have a backup plan. Until we get the official word, let’s mull over the Jamie Bell rumor. Right now he’s 24. By the time the movie opens he’ll be 26. Is that too old to be in high school?
