New 'Buried' Poster inspired by the works of Saul Bass

Buried, the stuck-in-a-coffin thriller starring Ryan Reynolds, gained serious buzz when it premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Lionsgate quickly snatched it up and has played its marketing hand like a pro. Not revealing too much too early, the theatrical teaser from April is just that: a teaser. But it is an impressive tease because it builds to its final reveal. Aside from that teaser, Lionsgate developed a “motion poster” which we showed you a few weeks ago. Now, courtesy of Lionsgate via MTV Movies, a new poster has been produced. And it has an uncanny resemblance to the legendary posters by artist Saul Bass.

In a day where anyone with Photoshop and a few minutes can make a poster with generic, touched-up faces and names that don’t match the actors, you have to appreciate the time and effort that goes into making posters with a sense of art. It’s the same reason Robert Saucedo has numerous Tyler Stout movie posters hanging on his wall. (If you don’t know who Tyler Stout is, check out his portfolio here.)

An American contractor working in Iraq awakes to find that he’s buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone, it’s a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap. Buried is directed by Rodrigo Cortés and is written by first-timer Chris Sparling. The film opens nationwide on October 8, 2010.
