MLB News: Commissioner Bud Selig Speaks About Galarraga's Perfecto

News

The man who ultimately denied Armando Galarraga a perfect game talked about why he did it.

Selig said he didn’t reverse the blown call because he feared opening a “pandora’s box” and set a precedent for overturning rulings, even though this was such a unique situation it would have barely set a precedent at all.

Selig also said he was “very comfortable” with his decision.

Selig spoke about expanding instant replay as well, say he didn’t feel there was a groundswell of support in baseball circles asking for replay. He doesn’t believe replay will be expanded this year.

“In the end, good or bad, I will do what I think is right,” said Selig. “I’m going to take the responsibility for it. I’ve been at this the last 45 years of my life, and the last 18 as commissioner, so I’ll trust my own judgment.”
