Mortal Kombat Not Finished Quite Yet

News, Rumors

Mysteriously appearing on YouTube, a seven minute video that offers a gritty, semi-realistic take on the classic video Mortal Kombat has been making the rounds across the Internet this afternoon.

Before we go any further, here it is:

While first assumptions may be that this is just a very impressive fan-made video, the presence of actors such as Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan (not to mention the very impressive production value) lends credence to the belief that this may be a promotional video for some upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot — either a new video game or a new movie or even both.

CHUD editor Devin Faraci claims that the video is from the the mind of Undisputed III fight choreographer Larnell Stovall. It could be a pre-conception video meant to drum up interest or financers — much like the TRON 2 video that made its way around the Internet a few years back.

Rapper and martial arts enthusiast RZA has written that the video is actually by Kevin Tancharoen, the director of the recent Fame remake. That’s not to say, though, that they aren’t both right and that Tancharoen and Stovall teamed up for the video.

At this point, it’s not entirely certain what this video is for exactly or who made it — the only thing known without a doubt is that this video is 100 percent awesome.

Don’t you agree?
