MLB Bloopers: Baseball's Best Blunders – DVD Review

Film, Reviews

MLB Bloopers: Baseball’s Best Blunders, looking at the name on the front you’d think this was a collection of the best of baseball’s blunders with people falling over and dropping pop-ups every couple of seconds, boy would you be wrong.

A few of the classics are here, Canseco taking one off the noggin, Castillo dropping a pop-up that cost the Mets a game, and some base running blunders, but for the most part it’s just fun stories from baseball. What most of us grew up calling “The lighter side” of baseball.

They spend a few minutes detailing the Yankee’s hitting each other with pies after walk off wins, which isn’t really a blunder at all. It’s a planned out event. And I for one have heard enough about the Yankee’s hitting each other with pies, so it was pretty annoying for me.

They also relive the Kyle Kendrick traded to Japan prank, which belongs on a pranks DVD, not a blooper DVD. It’s a great prank, don’t get me wrong, but pranks aren’t bloopers.

They also spend a lot of time on tarp sliding. Another thing that I don’t really think of as a blooper. It’s fun, but not a blooper. It’s a blooper when someone falls over trying to run the bases on the tarp, but when you run and slide on the tarp for awhile, that’s not a blooper, that’s baseball players having fun.

For what it is, this is a good DVD, there is a wide variety of things they touch on and most of it is humorous, but if you’re looking for bloopers and blunders, this isn’t what it claims to be.

MLB Bloopers: Baseball’s Best Blunders is present in 16:9 Widescreen format with Dolby Digital audio.
It’s all MLB licensed footage, so it all looks good and sounds good and for the most part, it’s stuff you’re not going to see anywhere else.

Orioles Magic Music Video – A piece done for TWIB
Ryan Dempster’s Wheel Heist – Ryan Dempster hides Will Ohman’s tires.
Mitch Williams Gives Larry Andersen Some Much-Needed Hair – Larry Andersen uses hair in a can.
Mascot Mayhem – Just mascot dancing, not even doing silly stuff.
Tim Hudson Scares Eddie Perez – Hudson hides in Eddie Perez’s closet.
Fun With Gum – Short…bubbles on the hat prank.
Fan-mania – Fans dancing in the stands and trying to make plays on balls.
Drive To The Park – A look at some players getting to the stadium.

Never judge a book by its cover, and never judge a DVD by its cover slip. This one says bloopers and blunders, but the bloopers and blunders are few and far between. That being said, it’s still a fun release, just don’t expect that actual bloopers and blunders that are promised.
