Warners Hires Writers for Green Lantern 2 and The Flash

News, Projects

“We plan ahead, that way we don’t do anything right now.” That was the philosophy Val and Earl adopted in Tremors. The suits at Warner Bros. must be fans of that movie (except for the not doing anything right now part), because already they are planning a sequel for Green Lantern, which arrives summer 2011. Heat Vision has learned that WB Has hired Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim to work on a treatment for the sequel. In addition to this announcement, HV also reports that the trio have been tapped to pen the treatment for an adaption of The Flash.

The kicker is that with the two treatments the trio would only write the screenplay for one of them. Which one they’ll write in the end is, of course, unknown at this point. But with the creative group given the go-ahead to work on treatments would mean that Warner Bros. is pleased with how Green Lantern is progressing. (It opens on June 17, 2011.)

The Buzz: It took DC Entertainment a while, but it seems that it’s ready to compete with the Marvel camp. Outside of Batman and Superman, few of their comics have made the transition to the big screen – unless we are talking smaller DC imprints like Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, and most recently The Losers. That’s about to change with the above-mentioned green guy and Jonah Hex. Comic writer Geoff Johns, who was recently appointed chief creative officer of DC Entertainment, is pushing for The Flash, both a comic rebirth and film. If the speedster is going to be on the silver screen, who would you want to play him?
