MLB News: Philadelphia Phillies Talking To Pedro Martinez About A Return

News

Martinez has said he wants to pitch the second half of the season like last year, and the Phillies may be a suitor again.

The Phillies have “talked” to the Pedro and his agent, but haven’t been negotiating. GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said they’re still waiting for Martinez to say he wants to pitch.

Martinez is reportedly going through a conditioning program in the Dominican Republic and in Miami to prepare himself to pitch down the stretch like he did last year with the Phillies when he went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in 9 starts in the regular season. He was 0-2 with a 3.71 ERA in the playoffs last year for the Phillies.

The Phillies are currently 3 1/2 games behind the Braves, due more to their offense than their pitching.
