Spoiler Warnings: Major Death in New Avengers #1 by Brian Bendis

Spoilers

The book opens with Stephen Strange talking to Daimon Hellstrom, as they discuss a recent mystical issue. Some barrier that has weakened allowing access from some other plane of existence. Hellstrom, who is telling Strange this, has already been possessed and attacks him.

Later in the issue the possessed duo appears in the Sanctum Sanctorum of Doctor Voodoo, claiming they need to see the Eye of Agamotto. Voodoo can tell immediately that they are possessed and demands answers, but the book cuts away.

When we cut back to Voodoo’s battle, it’s not going in his favor. The ghost of his brother keeps telling him to run, but Voodoo keeps demanding the creature possessing Strange and Hellstrom reveal itself. Two weird astral thingies appear and apparently eat the ghost of his brother, leaving Voodoo shocked as the possessee’s declare that the Eye is needed for the next event to happen.

When next we see the Eye of Agamotto it’s appearing in Luke Cage’s hand while he’s trying to recruit The Thing to join his team. The possessee’s show up and say that the presence of the Eye means that Doctor Voodoo is dead, and Strange says he will be the new ruler of this dimension with Cage’s help.

Right as the eye opens and Cage’s eyes light up.
