He’s been considered for the job 4 times, but he finally gets the job following Jacques Lemaire’s retirement.

MacLean spent last season coaching the Devils’ American Hockey League affiliate and led the team to its only playoff appearance in four seasons. Before that he spent seven years as a Devils assistant.

MacLean played 14 years for the Devils and is still the teams leading scorer with 347 career goals.
