So You Think You Can Dance – Episode 7-7

Thank you! Finally. You heard me, Nigel, you really heard me! Tonight’s Jazz group dance was a fun, glittery confection provided by new choreographer, Tessandra Chavez. Some new blood, that’s all I asked for. Now just get her to choreograph a couples routine.

Tonight’s episode was filled with some special treats, like Usher’s performance of “OMG” and um, Justin Bieber’s new video. I know he’s a young kid popular with the kiddies on Twitter, but I must be showing my age when I say I really don’t get it. He looks like Hilary Swank.

My favorite part of the night was watching Keith Roberts and Karine Plantadit from Twyla Tharp’s Broadway spectacle, Come Fly Away. That’s why I love this show. As much as it comes with the trappings of a reality show, it honors dancers and places them in the spotlight. Watching them was true artistry.

Well, I was off by two-thirds of my guesses for Bottom 3. I knew Melissa was in danger after Nigel told her she was, and she had the unfortunate duty of performing outside of her style next to Pasha of all people. I liked her solo, and I like Tap, but it can only look so exciting. I’m glad she stayed on the show. Also in the bottom was Cristina, who couldn’t overshadow Mark in Sonya’s routines if her life depended on it. Her solo was bland, bland, bland. She performed a few hip swivels and shimmies and called it a day. Maybe she should ask Anya for some solo pointers, because she can’t do that again. And then there was poor Alexie. I still maintain that her routine was not her fault, the blame lies with NappyTabs and their imposter Hip Hop. She performed what the choreographers gave her, and my heart goes out to her. She’s been auditioning for this show for years, and her first routine leads her to getting cut. Can we get some actual Hip Hop choreographers? Thanks.

Did the right people end up in the Bottom 3? I think Adechike and Lauren deserved it a bit more, but hey, that’s just me. Why were all of the Bottom 3 female? Does that mean a few episodes from now it will become and all-male show? Let me know what you think!
