Friday Night Lights: Episode 4-7, “In the Bag”

In the immediate aftermath of Matt & Lyla’s departure, there are some strange things going on in Dillon.

For starters, Julie’s falling apart at the seams. There are certainly others affected by Matt leaving, but judging from her visit to the Saracen house and subsequent breakdown at the Quiz Off – she’s having the hardest time of it.

Landry, while missing his best friend as well, decides it’s time to move forward. That means goodbye Tyra, hello Jess. The question is
how Vince, the newly minted QB of the East Dillon Lions, will take the news.

Vince, of course – has other problems to deal with. His mother is making an effort to stay clean, yet he doesn’t seem entirely convinced. Then there’s the matter of the police searching his locker for a gun.

The other star of the Lions, Luke – is being spread a little too thin between school, football and the farm. Help comes from an unlikely source, in fellow-Lion “Tinker”. My favorite scene of the episode was him making Luke’s dad realize what football means to Luke.

Meanwhile, the Riggins boys continue to struggle. While Tim’s busy being Becky’s knight in shining armor, Mindy’s mounting hospital bills are forcing Billy into yet another wrong turn.

As for the Taylors, besides Julie’s unhappiness: Eric may have stuck his neck out too far for a player again, and Tami should keep that unwanted kiss a secret for Glen’s sake.

Overall, “In the Bag” wasn’t one of FNL‘s stronger hours. And I’m hoping the Tami-Glen and Billy situations are resolved sooner than later. Dillon needs some brighter days.
