NBA News: Manute Bol Passes Away

News

This past weekend, former NBA player Manute Bol passed away at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, where he was being treated for severe kidney trouble, as well as a skin disease.

Bol was one of the tallest players that the NBA has ever seen, at 7’7″. He was a two-time leader in blocked shots during the regular season, in 1985-86 with the Washington Bullets, and in 1988-89 with the Golden State Warriors. In fact, he was such a prolific shot-blocker that he remains to this day as the only player in NBA history to block more shots than points scored, blocking 2,086 shots and scoring 1,599 points.

After his retirement, Bol did work with Sudan Sunrise, which is a group that promotes reconciliation throughout Sudan. He was a board member of this group, and worked with other various charities through Africa.
