MLB News: Fredi Gonzalez Fired As Florida Marlins Manager

Could this be the end result of starting a war of words with your superstar shortstop?

The Marlins were 34-36 and 7 1/2 games back at the time of the move. “We owe it to our fans to put this team in the best possible position to win,” Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria said in a statement. “Everyone knows how I feel about winning. That’s the reason we’re making this change.”

Triple-A Manager Edwin Rodriguez will manage the team on an interim basis.

Also fired were bench coach Carlos Tosca and hitting coach Jim Presley. They were replaced on an interim basis by Brandon Hyde and John Mallee.

Gonzalez said the firing wasn’t a surprise to him because it’s the way the business works. He also said the firing had nothing to do with his decision to bench Hanley Ramirez earlier this year for not hustling.
