San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson has been suspended due to violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy, as announced by NFL.com today. Apparently the suspension was handed down two weeks ago, according to NFL.com’s Vic Carucci, but it just now trickled down to the news section today.
Back in February, Jackson spent four days in jail plus five years of probation after he leaded guilty to a January 2009 DUI arrest. In January of THIS year, he was pulled over and was arrested for driving with a suspended license and expired registration.
According to the NFL’s personal conduct policy, a second DUI constituted a suspension for Jackson. While it is unknown as to whether or not the second offense was influenced by alcohol, the NFL is apparently treating it as such, therefore Jackson will sit out the first three games of the season.
Sources say that this suspension will not affect Jackson’s trade value, nor will it affect the Chargers’ desire for him to sign his restricted free-agent tender.
Jackson managed to surpass the 1,000-yard receiving mark this past year, with 1,167 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns, off of 68 receptions. With this suspension, there could be a *slight* decrease in those numbers for the 2010-2011 season.
