Over at WIRED.com, Lionsgate has debuted a clip from the “A New Kind of Superhero: The Making of Kick-Ass” documentary which is EXCLUSIVE to the Blu-Ray version of Kick-Ass. Matthew Vaughn’s (Layer Cake, Stardust) third directorial effort pulled in a collective $95 million worldwide but looks to have a longer shelf life on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. (It’s definitely going to be added to my collection).
With a middle-finger attitude to the comic-book superhero movies that have come before it, Kick-Ass is about an ordinary teenager (Aaron Johnson) who goes unnoticed by the opposite sex. One day he decides to don a mask and call himself “Kick-Ass” to fight crime. Later, he meets the father-daughter tandem of “Big Daddy” (Nicolas Cage) and “Hit-Girl” (Chloë Grace Moretz), who are waging their own war on crime. Throw in a hammy performance by Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes) as the vicious crime lord and a rockin’ soundtrack and you have yourself a pretty kick-ass film.
Kick-Ass arrives on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on August 3rd. You can read about the special features here.
