NCAA News: Georgia AD Damon Evans Out After DUI Arrest

News

Evans was the first African-American Athletic Director in the history of the Southeastern Confrence.

Evans was charged with driving under the influence on Wednesday night and left his position over the weekend. News outlets aren’t sure if Evans was fired from his position or if he resigned the position.

Evans was hired to replace longtime Georgia athletics director and football coach Vince Dooley in 2004 and was scheduled to begin a new five-year contract that would have paid him $550,000 annually.

School officals expected Evans to survive the DUI arrest until details of the police report were made public. Details included in the report said that Evans tried to use his position to get out of the charges numerous times. The lady in the car with him also tried to use his position with the university to get them out of trouble.
