Bisping to face Akiyama at UFC 120

News

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Michael Bisping will face Yoshihiro Akiyama on October 16th in London at UFC 120. While its not a surprised to see  Bisping fight on the organization’s first UK event since UFC 105 the choice of opponent must surely raise some eyebrows given the UFC’s policy of always trying to match up fighters who are both coming off wins or both coming off losses. While Bisping comfortably defeated Dan Miller at UFC 114, Akiyama lost a close fight to Chris Leben at UFC 116. No doubt this unusual decision was informed by Akiyama’s fight of the night performance and the fact that high profile middleweights such as Vito Belfort and Wanderlei Silva are currently unavailable due to injury.
