MLS Recap: 498 Minutes

A penalty kick and a goalie who hasn’t been score on in 498 minutes of soccer action was all the defending MLS Champions needed against the Chicago Fire for the first time in Toyota Park.

Robert Findley, fresh off his appearance in the World Cup, scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute after being tripped up by a Chicago defender.

Real Salt Lake’s goalie, Nick Romando, who hasn’t allowed a goal since May 29 was challenged in the 2nd half by Chicago but prevented the ball from crossing the goalline.  Chicago did have two close calls, one that bounced off the top rail and the other off the side post.

Chicago drops to 4-5-5 and is in 4th place in the Eastern Conference while Real Salt Lake moves to 9-3-3 in  the  Western Conference
