Strikeforce announce Middleweight and Light Heavyweight Title Fights

News

As reported by Sherdog, Strikeforce has announced that Ronaldo Souza and Tim Kennedy will fight for the vacant Strikeforce Middleweight Title on Aug. 21 at the Toyota Center in Houston. On a four-fight win streak, Kennedy has captured the imagination of many, partly due to him also being a US Special Forces Sniper. Souza is a BJJ black belt with 12 submission victories and has only has only suffered one MMA defeat in the past seven years. It had been rumored that the champion would be crowned by a title tournament and Strikeforce is still considering whether to have a tournament to decide the number one contender.

Strikeforce has also (finally) announced who Muhammad ‘King Mo’ Lawal will make his first defense of his light heavyweight title against, with the new champion meeting Rafael Cavalcante in the main event of Strikeforce: Houston. Also announced for the show are K.J. Noons vs Jorge Gurgel and Bobby Lashley against an unconfirmed opponent.
