Disc News: The Hangover Gets "Extreme" This October

Disc Announcements, News

Warner Home Video has announced the DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases of The Hangover: Extreme Edition. Arriving on October 12th the individual releases look to cash in on Todd Phillips’ resurgence as a comedy director and Zach Galifinakis as a breakout star. The two are collaborating again on Due Date (opening on November 5th), which also stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx. The new “extreme” edition is brimming with superfluous swag like a 28-page wedding album with missing photos – some incriminating in nature. The DVD release will carry over all the supplemental material found on the original two-disc DVD special edition and the Blu-ray release will include everything found on the original Blu-ray edition. The Suggested List Price for The Hangover: Extreme Edition on Blu-ray is $49.99, and the 2-disc DVD is $39.92.

So it looks like the only thing added is a wedding album for both releases and a soundtrack sampler for the Blu-ray Disc. Unless you don’t own The Hangover already, I don’t see what would prompt current owners to double-dip on this release. It probably would have made better sense and time the release with The Hangover 2, which comes to theaters next summer.
