Over the weekend, Tracy Ringolsby of Fox Sports reported that Diamondback first round pick Barret Loux failed his physical. His exam showed that there are issues with his shoulder.
Negotiations with Loux and the team have stopped. I still expect an agreement to be reached, but well below the slot value ($2.6MM according the MLB). The other option is for Arizona to let him walk and get the 7th overall pick in next years draft, which is considered much deeper than this years.
Loux, a surprise pick at #6, pitched for Texas A&M, where they were hard on the pitchers work load; he had 4 games where he pitched over 120 pitches after May 4th. He was considered a late first round/supplemental pick prior to the draft. Many, including myself, consider this pick a reach by the D’backs.
