At least they didn’t completely blow the tournament up.
The NCAA announced that the tournament will expand to 68 teams and feature 4 play-in game that will now constitute the first round. The four games will be played on the Tuesday or Wednesday following selection Sunday, most likely in Dayton, Ohio.
The old “first and second round” game will now be the “second and third” round games but will still be played the weekend following selection Sunday. The Sweet 16 and on will remain the same.
The first round games will be the last at-large teams into the tournament, so it could be two teams playing for the #12 seed or #11 seed and won’t always be for a #16 seed.
