NCAA News: NCAA Considering Early Scholarship Ban

News

This would be the best thing the NCAA has done in a long time.

The NCAA is considering a ban on offering scholarships to recruits before July 1st between their Junior and Senior year of high school.

The rule change would require coaches to ask for a transcript proving the athlete has atleast 5 semesters or 7 quarters of high school education before being able to offer a scholarship.

The rule would stop what some coaches are calling an arms race mentality that leads to earlier and earlier commitments from athletes. Such as USC recruiting a 13-year-old quarterback. The same problems have come up in college basketball as well. The rule change would apply to all sports.
