The Kings have already dropped out of the Kovy bidding twice, yet they still might be about to land the high scoring winger.
Reports on NHL.com say that Kovalchuk is flying out to Los Angeles to have face-to-face negotiations with Kings management, something that doesn’t usually happen until sides are very close to a deal.
Some reports say the deal is already done and Kovalchuk is just flying out to sign the contract, but Kings GM Dean Lombardi called those reports “utterly false.”
Kovalchuck would give the Kings the high scoring winger they need to go alongside playmaking center Anze Kopitar and bruising winger Dustin Brown.
