Jake Shields to debut against Martin Kampmann at UFC 121

News

Sherdog is reporting that Jake Shields’ father and manager has announced that his son has signed with the UFC and will be making his promotional debut against Martin Kampmann on October 23rd at UFC 121. This news follows incorrect reports from the personal website of his trainer Cesar Gracie that Shields had signed with the promotion last Thursday.

The former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion is on a fourteen fight winning streak while Kampmann has impressed in his last two outings against Jacob Volkmann and Paulo Thiago. Both are highly regarded welterweights and the fight may well determine who will challenge for the world title after George St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck. Particularly if George St. Pierre retains, as the world champion has repeatedly expressed a desire to face Shields and has already defeated the division’s other top contenders.
