NHL News: Ilya Kovalchuck Re-Signs With New Jersey Devils

News

After a long drawn out process, Kovy finally decided to go back to the Devils.

UPDATE: Kovalchuck signed a 17-year $102 million contract that will give the Devils a $6 million average cap hit, less than the Minnesota Wild’s recent signing of Mikko Koivu.

Kovalchuk had 27 points in 27 games with the Devils after his arrival to give him 41 goals and 85 points for the season. Kovy has scored at least 40 goals in each of the last 6 season.

The Los Angeles Kings were thought to be the front-runner for Kovalchuck, but were never able to agree to a contract with the dynamic winger and eventually lost him to the Devils.
