Danny Green KOs Paul Briggs; Controversy Ensues

News

Danny Green needed only 29 seconds to dispatch of Paul Briggs in a cruiserweight bout in Australia on Wednesday. Green, who gained notoriety for knocking out Roy Jones Jr in 2009, improved to 30-3, 27 KOs with the win.

Controversy erupted almost immediately after the ten count to Paul Briggs was finished. The knockout blow, a left jab to the top of Briggs’ head, appeared to be a glancing shot. The IBO has already called for an investigation into the fight. The Western Australian Professional Combat Sports Commission received information that two betting agencies received a flurry of prop bets for a first round KO prior to the fight.

Danny Green was initially irate at Briggs but after watching tape has changed his tune.

“I caught Briggs on the soft part on the skull on top of the head. This is proof he (Briggs) was felled by a legitimate blow to the head and actually a brain stem kind of injury has occurred. It’s almost like a collision.”

Briggs had not fought in three and a half years prior to this fight and could not get medical clearance for a fight in Sydney, the original planned host for the fight.

Shane Cameron, who was victorious on the undercard, called out Danny Green for a future bout.
