Alexander Povetkin Out Of Klitschko Fight; Sam Peter Possibly In

News

The heavyweight title fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin that was set for September 11 in Germany is now off. Povetkin did not show for the news conference in Germany to promote the fight amidst claims that a sinus problem prohibits him from flying for 10 days. This is the third time that a Klitschko-Povetkin has fallen apart. Povetkin was the mandatory challenger to Wladimir’s heavyweight title.

Wladimir Klitschko will now move on to the next challenger in the rankings, Sam Peter. The two met in 2005 and a unanimous decision was won by Wladimir Klitschko, despite being knocked down three times by Peter.

The proposed Klitschko-Peter rematch would still be on the September 11 date that was being held for Klitschko-Povetkin.
