Mark Ruffalo to take over as Hulk in Avengers with Edward Norton out

Casting News, News

Things seemed to be going a good route in the past couple years with comic book films getting better and better. When all the pieces seem to fall into place and make way for something even larger, then it really gets fans excited. But how much consistency can you really have if an important cog is being changed every time we turn around.

Word had gotten out recently that Edward Norton would not be returning to reprise his role as the Hulk in the new collaborative effort, The Avengers. A lot of back and forth between studio heads and Norton’s agent have the blame going back and forth. Not that it matters though because his replacement has now been found.

Deadline is now reporting that Mark Ruffalo has officially signed on to play the Hulk even though Marvel hasn’t confirmed it yet.

Joss Whedon confirmed earlier this week that he will be directing the film bringing together a team of superhero characters such as Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. It’s possible that at the SDCC on Saturday; a full panel of the stars could arrive on stage and introduce Ruffalo as the new green machine.

This marks the third actor to play the Hulk in three films as Eric Bana was first, then Norton, and now Ruffalo. Let’s just hope he can pull it off nearly as well as Norton did. The Avengers is set to hit theatres on May 4, 2012. More to come on this later on as the San Diego Comic Con continues.
