It's official! Spider-Man's Brand New Day To End With October's Amazing Spider-Man #647!

News, Top Story

During today’s Spider-Man panel it was made official, like we reported before, Spider-Man’s Brand New Day is drawing to a close after 101 issues.

Mark Waid had this to say about the plot of Origin of the Species, the final arc of the Brand New Day era, during a group discussion with the writers.

After “O.M.I.T.,” we still have the big, blowout, million-villain piece “Origin of the Species.” Lily Hollister, who has Goblin serum coursing through her veins and whose last name I consistently cannot spell, has given birth to Norman Osborn’s baby – and now that baby, sui generis, is the hot potato that the entire underworld is after for a variety of reasons that put Spidey through the wringer and, in many ways, creates a drama that’s the culmination of the entire “Brand New Day” era.”

Now I guess that’s all well and good, wrap up a plot in the last issues featuring characters you debuted in the first issues, but I guess the question is, will it be worth it?

Joe Quesada has said that Brand New Day is a success in that it gave Spider-Man the supporting cast that being married failed to allow (I have friends that happen to be married couples, and despite my being single, I still hang out with them, so I fail to see how being married means no friends). He says this despite the dip in sales that the book has hit, and claims that he did the right thing. I don’t blame him for that, I mean, I blame him for One More Day, but I don’t blame him for believing in himself. He had a mission, he carried it out, whether I like it or not I have to admit respect for his ability to pull it off.

So what does the future hold? I’ve brought up the rumblings of there possibly being a new Spider-Man after Brand New Day ends, but I doubt we’d have a clue about that until October rolled around. And that Dan Slott could be writing it all twice monthly. Who knows?

All this blogger knows is that our own Jay Galette did a review for the first issue of One Moment in Time for today, and I completely agree with what he had to say.
