ROH’s Chris Hero talks Dream Matches and the Horsemen as his Idols

Here is what he had to say:

“Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson were a classic tag team. They were so solid. I loved watching them,” Hero said of the Brain Busters, who also were part of the Four Horseman stable. “Personally I feel that Eddie Guerrero is the best overall wrestler for our generation. If you look at the whole package — from wrestling ability to talking; good guy or bad guy; in Mexico, Japan, the States, etc. — he ran the gamut from one side to the other. It’s a shame things ended the way they did and prematurely (Blogger Note: Guerrero died in 2005 at age 38) as he did leave a great body of work to look upon.

“Wrestling is my passion, so I do enjoy watching wrestling of all kinds. But it’s just extra incentive when you see guys doing things out of the ordinary — new sequences or new styles or stuff that hasn’t been done before — or taking something old and putting a new spin on it. That inspires me to get on top of my game and make sure the young guys don’t pass me by.”

“There are a host of Japanese wrestlers that I would love to have singles matches with,” he said, citing Naomichi Marufuji, whom he called one of the top guys for Pro Wrestling NOAH and who had an extended run with ROH, and legends Kenta Kobashi and Toshiaki Kawada.

“Claudio and I were just saying we’ve wrestled just about all the great tag teams available right now,” Hero added. “Something that really interests me, although I’m not really sure how it would run now, is I would like to see (Paul) London and (Brian) Kendrick against Claudio and I. I would like to see what would happen. Their contributions are never forgotten. If the four of us wrestle each other down the line, I think it would be really special.”
