Watch It: Trailer for Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch

News, Top Story, Trailers

Unfortunately, I could not attend this year’s Comic-Con. Yet, for some strange reason, I heard this loud buzzing sound that I traced all the way to San Diego and the Warner Bros. panel for Zack Snyder’s upcoming film Sucker Punch. It’s a project I had heard about, mainly through casting notes involving Carla Gugino (who also appeared in Snyder’s Watchmen) and High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens.

The promo reel shown to onlookers was said to be almost indescribable, like a mix of anime and video-game imagery that was visually intense and was highlighted by slow-down speed-up action, a signature we’ve come to expect from Snyder. Riding a wave of positive buzz, Warner Bros. (via Apple) has launched the first movie trailer. Watch it below and let us know what you think.

Sucker Punch is an epic action fantasy set in the 1950s that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl (Emily Browning), institutionalized by her wicked stepfather, whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, but her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary…with potentially tragic consequences.

The film looks to be a visual smorgasbord of action (did I detect dragons and B-52 bombers?) and eye candy with two Aussie chicks, Emily Browning and Abbie Cornish, leading the way. The cast also includes Mad Men star and Mercedes car rep Jon Hamm, Jena Malone, Jamie Chung, Scott Glenn and Oscar Isaac. Looks like it could be epic, but that’s be expected for the guy who gave us this.

Sucker Punch hits theaters on March 25, 2011.
