Former Dodgers and Twins Pitcher Ed Palmquist Passes Away

News

Ed Palmquist, who played in the major leagues from 1961 to 1962, departed this mortal world on July 10th at the age of 77.

Palmquist began his professional career in 1951 while a teenager, making his big league debut about a decade later, in 1960 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He performed well for them that season, making 22 relief appearances and posting an ERA of 2.54—the lowest of anybody on the pitching staff.

The following year he was unable to replicate his success from the previous year, posting an ERA of 6.23 in five games with the Dodgers before being traded with Joe Altobelli to the Minnesota Twins for Ernie Oravetz on May 10. He made nine appearances with the Twins, going 1-1 with a 9.43 ERA.

By the conclusion of his baseball career he was well-travelled, as he ended up spending time playing in Japan.

Palmquist played for the Twins in their first year of existence under that name. He is the first Twin from that team to pass away since Chuck Stobbs on July 11, 2008.
