Tonight, UFC presents UFC on Versus 2 live from the San Diego Sports Arena in California. We’re looking forward to four big fights live Versus, headlined by a Light Heavyweight encounter featuring Jon “Bones” Jones taking on Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko.

Yushin Okami goes head-to-head with Mark Munoz in a middleweight bout. Welterweight contenders John Howard and Jake Ellenberger face off and and Japanese superstar Takanori Gomi attempts to get his first win in the Octagon when he locks horns with Tyson Griffin.

Round 1

Matyushenko misses a jab. Leg kick from Jones. Spinning back kick to the body from Jones. Takedown from Jones and Vlad has an arm lock. Jones gets him to let to side control. After a short amount of work, Jon Jones gets a mounted crucifix on Matyushenko and rocks him with 7-8 elbows to the side of the head with no possible resistance from Vlad. Herb Dean steps in to stop the fight.

Winner: Jon Jones by TKO (R1, 1:52, elbows)


Mark Munoz vs. Yushin Okami
Referee: “Big” John McCarthy

Round 1

Munoz throws a big right over the top that catches air. Okami stalks Munoz who is bouncing intelligently. Big right grazes Yushin. Okami misses a right. Okami controls the center of the Octagon and lands a straight left. Okami throws a combo that Munoz ducks under. Head kick from Munoz misses. Munoz switches levels and goes for the takedown, but Okami sprawls and lets Munoz up. Munoz has a single and gets Okami to his seat. Okami sprawls and gets back to his feet, but is pressed against the cage by Munoz. Knees to the thighs from Munoz. Munoz has the single leg against the fence, but lets go and lets a big uppercut fly. Munoz shoots for the takedown, but Okami sprawls and waits out the last 10 seconds of the first round.

Round 2

Munoz is trying to stay active, let his hands fly. Body kick from Munoz. Mark avoids two punches from Yushin and secures a single leg. Okami sprawls, Munoz lets him up and releases a hook that misses on the way out. Okami with a straight left and clinches against the cage and releases. Big punch from Mark rocks Okami, but Yushin composes himself quickly and gets his senses about him. He’s briefly on top of Munoz, but they’re back to their feet just as fast. Munoz connects with another big right and Okami sprawls with Munoz hanging on his leg. Body punches from Okami – Munoz still has the leg and he’s working for the second leg as well. Hammerfists from Okami, but Munoz keeps working for the takedown, getting Okami to his butt for a moment before Yushin pops to his feet as the round ends.

Munoz 10-9

Round 3

Okami immediately comes out swinging. Okami is just pressing, but Munoz waits against the fence and springs out with two punches of his own. Munoz switches levels and has his takedown stuffed. Okami and Munoz let some leather go on the fence, Okami getting the better of the exchange with body shots. Yushin avoids another single leg, comes back with a punch that dazes Munoz who slips. Munoz pushing to strike on his feet. Swing and miss by Okami, Munoz lands a glancing blow. Back fist from Munoz. Munoz ducks under a straight and Yushin sprawls the takedown. Okami posted up on his knees against the cage. Little punches from Okami prevent Munoz from completing the takedown. Okami gets the head of Munoz to head the fight and a knee is deflected. The third round is over.

Winner: Yushin Okami by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)


Darren Elkins vs. Charles Oliveira
Referee: Herb Dean

Round 1

Jab from Oliveira, countered by Elkins with a straight. Elkins gets a big slam to the mat, but Oliveira is working for a triangle choke. Elkins tries to step through, but Oliveira secures Elkins’ leg to lock the hold. He converts the hold into an armbar that Darren Elkins has no choice but to tap to.

Winner: Charles Oliveira via submission (R1, 0:41, armbar)


John Howard vs. Jake Ellenberger
Referee: Herb Dean

Round 1

Ellenberger comes flying in with early punches. Howard retaliates with a hook to the gloves, but Jake clinches and drives Howard to the Octagon cage. Dirty boxing to the body against the fence. Knee to the body from Ellenberger. Herb Dean breaks up the clinch and both fighters are back on their feet. Howard goes for two haymakers that just miss. Ellenberger drops for a double-leg and gets the takedown, ending up in the closed guard of Howard. After a minute on the mat, Dean stands both fighters back up. After some boxing, Ellenberger gets a takedown again, this time into half guard.

Round 2

Big head kick from John Howard is shaken off by Ellenberger. Another big shot from Howard stuns Jake, who drops and takes Howard to the mat. Ellenberger is in half guard. Short elbows and punches from Ellenberger. Howard tries to spin out of trouble, but loses the wrist of Jake on the way over. Ellenberger is back on his feet over a grounded John Howard and drops a big punch. Ground and pound from Ellenberger allows John to slip free and get back to his feet. Howard grabs the back of Jake’s head and waits for him to rise to his feet, launching a Muay Thai knee at his head. Ellenberger backs away and Howard launches two big hooks as Ellenberger retreats. Takedown from Jake leads to some ground and pound on Howard to end the round.

Ellenberger 10-9

Round 3

Howard launches a flying knee after Ellenberger gets a middle kick to the body caught. Big punches from both fighters. John Howard’s left eye is so swollen, it’s swelling around his head to his ear. Just gross. Ellenberger shoots in for a takedown and gets into the closed guard of John Howard. Body punches and missed head shots in the guard. Herb Dean stands the fighters up and gets another look at Howard’s eye. He calls the doctor into the Octagon and the fight is stopped.

Winner: Jake Ellenberger by TKO/doctor stoppage (R3, 2:21)


Tyson Griffin vs. Takanori Gomi
Referee: Jason Herzog

Round 1

Left hand to the body by Gomi. Griffin counters. Both fighters continue to circle and engage. Great shots missing. Gomi lands a big right hand, dropping Tyson Griffin onto his face. Gomo swarms him and pounds him out until the referee is forced to step in and call the bout.

Winner: Takanori Gomi by KO (R1, 1:04, punches)
