MLB News: Cleveland Indians Catcher Carlos Santana Injured In Collision At The Plate

News

Thankfully initial reports say it’s not as serious as it looked.

Santana was attempting to block the plate as Red Sox player Ryan Kalish was trying to score from second on a base hit, the ball and the Kalish arrived at the same time and Kalish appeared to slide into Santana’s left leg that had been planted to block the plate. The collision was hard enough to knock Santana’s shoe off, and I think that’s part of the reason the injury looks worse, you don’t know exactly when his foot left the shoe.

Doctors put his leg in an inflatable cast and carted him off the field at a 15 minute delay.

Here is the replay.

Santana will be in Cleveland today to get an MRI and the team will go from there to see how long they will be without their young catcher.
