NFL News: Plaxico Burress Applies For Work Release Again

News

A ruling is expected by September 9.

Burress, who is in a New York state prison until June 2011 on felony weapons possession charges, applied for work release last month and is expected to get a ruling from state authorities by the beginning of the 2010 NFL season on Sept. 9th.

The league had previously said Burress was suspended until his sentence was over, but has recently said if he is granted work release, the suspension would be lifted.

With work release, a prisoner is typically only allowed to leave Monday-Friday and then must come back on the weekend, something that wouldn’t work very well for most NFL teams. Burress is applying for a waiver to that rule based on the idea that the only way for him to make a living in is chosen profession is with a waiver to the rule.
