Staff Picks: Fight To Watch

Corey’s Pick: Chad Dawson vs. Jean Pascal
August 14 on HBO

You might call August a stay-busy month as most of the top names are expected to cruise to victory before chasing more appetizing matches this Winter. But one fight that means a lot and could be pretty competitive is the light heavyweight showdown between Chad Dawson and Jean Pascal. Pascal is a skilled fighter with plenty of heart who gave Carl Froch plenty of grief in a losing effort two years ago. Dawson is the more talented fighter but has been inactive since November. He’s certainly picked a tough guy to come back against after such a long layoff. It’s a good fight on paper and the best fight to make at light heavyweight.

Paul’s Pick: Chad Dawson vs. Jean Pascal
August 14 on HBO

Chad Dawson vs. Jean Pascal is a real fight fan’s fight. Speed, precision and science with two prime, talented light heavyweights. Best of all, both Dawson and Pascal can be lured into a fight if they get hit. Dawson has the edge in overall skill and ability, but he hasn’t ever fought anyone as physically gifted as Pascal. I can’t wait.

Trent’s Pick: Tavoris Cloud vs. Glen Johnson
August 7 on HBO

Slim pickins this month. I’ll probably spend most of my time waiting for September to get here. In the meantime, I’ll certainly be interested in Tavoris Cloud against Glen Johnson. The latter can’t be in a bad fight and it will take a true effort from the young gun to get the win. I’m expecting a good fight and I’m interested to see how Cloud reacts when Johnson doesn’t retreat.
