Teaser Trailer: Skyline

News, Trailers

Talk about a movie I knew nothing about before seeing the teaser. I hadn’t heard anything, read anything or seen any images. While I’m not quite sold on it like some might be, Universal Pictures’ Skyline could be a nice little sci-fi invasion thriller with a timed release around Thanksgiving. Starring Eric Balfour (24) and Donald Faison (Dr. Turk from Scrubs) and a number of other actors you’ve probably never seen unless you are a TV addict, the teaser makes good use of archival news footage with Dan Rather (remember him?) to help build up the invasion angle. The teaser does its job by enticing viewers, but I fear that a longer trailer may be a letdown.

Watch the teaser below and decide for yourself.

In Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. Colin and Greg Strause, who previously helmed AVP: Requiem and were visual effects designers on films like Iron Man 2 and Avatar, direct, produce and also handle the effects. The screenplay comes from Joshua Cordes and Liam O’Donnell. Both are new to the writing game, but like the Strause brothers, they also have a background in visual effects.

Universal hopes that viewers will want to see mankind whoop E.T.’s ass once again on November 12th. Can you dig that?
