From The Boxing Tribune:

Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico– In a rematch of their hotly-contested 2008 brawl, middleweights, Marco Antonio Rubio (48-5-1, 41 KOs) and Jose Luis Zertuche (21-7-3, 16 KOs) would pick up right where they left off.

Fighting in his home state of Guanajuato, Zertuche came out hard and strong, bulling his way inside and firing some powerful shots to Rubio’s head and body.

Rubio, the better technical boxer of the two, worked to get some distance and keep the charging brawler at the end of his sharp, straight punches.

By the beginning of the fourth round, Rubio started scoring some strong, effective shots, but Zertuche kept coming forward. At the end of that same round, a Rubio body shot caused Zertuche to spit out his mouthpiece and wave off the contest himself. However, referee Jesus Salcedo, misread the situation and gave Zertuche some time to recover before allowing the contest to continue.

In the fifth, a Rubio punch opened a huge gash over Zertuche’s left eye and, by this point, the momentum had shifted greatly in Rubio’s favor.

The end came in the sixth when Zertuche would once again wave off the contest, this time turning his back on Rubio and walking back to his corner.

The fans expressed their discontent with their home state fighter’s showing by throwing items into the ring and via several pushing contests with members of the Zertuche’s team.

After the fight, Zertuche’s management blamed the loss on their fighter having to drop about five pounds on the day of the weigh-in.

Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico– Super Featherweight contender, Joksan hernandez (21-2, 14 KOs) stopped Memphis native, Ira Terry (24-4, 14 KOs) via KO 1 at the 2:32 mark.

On the undercard, Cuban amateur star, Guillermo Rigondeaux (6-0, 5 KOs) beat veteran journeyman, Jose Angel Beranza (33-19-2, 26 KOs) via RTD 6.
